Arrival at Delhi airport and transfer to hotel. Later we embark on a city tour of both Old and New Delhi. While exploring Old Delhi, we visit the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial), and drive past Chandni Chowk. We will also visit the Qutab Minar, Humayun Tomb, and the modern Birla Mandir Temple, while driving past India Gate, the President’s House, the Parliament House, and Secretariat Buildings. After breakfast departure for Haridwar. The enchanting backdrop of the Himalayan mountains, lush green forests, and the swift-flowing river adds a unique charm to this sacred city. Haridwar holds significance as a pilgrimage destination, attracting millions of Hindu devotees from all corners of India and beyond. Believers come to partake in the sacred act of taking a dip in the holy waters of the River Ganges, firmly believing that it cleanses them of all sins. Haridwar is particularly renowned for hosting the grand spiritual gathering, the Kumbh Mela, considered the largest event of its kind on Earth. Upon visiting the revered Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar, proceed to Rishikesh. Often regarded as the Yoga Capital of The World, Rishikesh welcomes you to immerse yourself in a brief discourse on Yoga and meditation. We drive to Amritsar, the city of the Golden Temple to explore the Golden Temple, Akal Takht, and Jallianwala Bagh. We then go for excursion to the Wagah Border, often referred to as the “Berlin Wall of Asia.” This ceremonial border between India and Pakistan hosts a daily retreat ceremony known as the ‘lowering of the flags.’ The atmosphere is electrifying, with crowds fervently chanting slogans to salute the soldiers. After breakfast we first visit Golden Temple, also known as Gurudwara Harmander Sahib, or Darbar Sahib. Constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the visionary founder of the Sikh Empire, the Golden Temple earns its name from the 750 kilograms of pure gold adorning its upper domes. As we approach the main temple entrance, a walkway flanked by pools filled with sacred water awaits. Devout Sikh men and women partake in purifying baths, considering the water spiritually cleansing. Notably, all pilgrims to the Golden Temple are graciously offered a complimentary meal, courtesy of one of the world’s largest kitchens, serving 100,000 meals daily. The ambiance inside the temple resonates with continuous hymns and music, fostering an atmosphere of profound devotion and tranquillity.

Our tour continues to Akal Takht, the immortal throne established in the 17th century by the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji. Subsequently, we visit Jallianwala Bagh, a poignant site that bore witness to a brutal act by the British colonial rulers in India. In 1919, General Dyer and a troop of 90 soldiers opened fire on a peaceful gathering of 1500 people celebrating the Indian festival of ‘Baisakhi.’

We will conclude the day with an overnight stay, reflecting on the historical and cultural significance of these impactful sites.

In the morning, our journey takes us to Dharamshala, a charming hill station nestled in the Kangra Valley, offering breath-taking vistas of the snow-capped Dhauladhar Mountain Range in the Himalayas. Serving as the seat of The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, Dharamshala became a refuge for those who escaped Tibet in 1959 during the Chinese takeover and sought sanctuary in India. With a population exceeding 10,000 Tibetans, Dharamshala boasts numerous Tibetan monasteries, organizations, schools, and nunneries.

Upon arriving at the hotel, we embark on an afternoon visit to the Tibetan Refugee Camp. Here, you have the opportunity to engage with the local Tibetan community, and gain insights into their lifestyle and the political challenges confronting their homeland. The camp welcomes volunteers from various countries who contribute by offering language classes and computer training to Tibetan children. If interested, you can also become a volunteer by submitting an advance request to the camp.

Later in the day, we explore Dal Lake and the Naddi sunset point, treating ourselves to breath-taking panoramic views of the valley and the majestic snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. Conclude the day with an overnight stay, immersed in the serene ambiance of this Himalayan haven.

After breakfast at the hotel, our first destination is the Dalai Lama Temple, serving as the official residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The temple exudes an atmosphere of profound peace and meditation, adorned with exquisite statues of Lord Buddha, Avalokiteshvara, and other revered figures. Within the temple, you can partake in meditation within the expansive meditation hall, and engage in Buddhist rituals such as turning the prayer wheels to accumulate merit and purify your ‘karma.’ Additionally, explore the temple library that houses preserved ancient sacred texts and provides insights into Buddhist philosophy.

Our journey continues to the Bhaksu Nag Temple, a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The sacred site features two pools of water believed to possess healing properties due to their sulfur content. The temple hosts an annual fair in September, drawing tourists from around the globe. Adjacent to the temple lies the Bhaksu Nag Waterfall, a picturesque waterbody enveloped by dense deodar and cedar trees, offering breath-taking views. We drive to Chandigarh, the first planned city of India and visit architectural marvels designed by Le Corbusier, including the Capitol Complex and Rock Garden. Overnight stay in Chandigarh.

Explore Chandigarh’s landmarks, and then we drive to Delhi and later transfer to Delhi airport to catch onward flight.
